Pakistan Post Revises Pension Proof-of-Life Rules: What Every Pensioner Must Do Now
If you receive a pension through Pakistan Post, here is what you must do now: complete your digital proof of life through Nadra once every six months. Pakistan Post has issued a revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for pension disbursement and proof-of-life verification, reported on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Family pensioners whose pension depends on marital status must also arrange a non-marriage or non-remarriage certificate verified by their union council.
Quick facts: Pakistan Post revised pension SOP
- Issued: revised SOP for pension disbursement and proof-of-life verification, reported Tuesday, October 20, 2026
- New core rule: digital proof of life through Nadra every six months
- Channels: Nadra’s Pak ID mobile app, authorised registration centres, mobile units, e-Sahulat franchises, and bank branches or mobile apps operating as authorised Nadra centres
- Manual fallback: form No. 10 (manual life certificate) for pensioners without digital access, extreme old age or medical reasons
- Abroad: form No. 11 for pensioners living abroad; form No. 12 for family pensioners abroad
- Family pensioners: non-marriage/non-remarriage certificate, verified by the union council, submitted to the pension facilitation centre where pension continuation is conditional on marital status

What the new Pakistan Post SOP actually says
The revised SOP, sent by Pakistan Post in a letter to the officials concerned, is plain: pensioners must complete their digital proof of life through Nadra every six months. The Pakistan Post directorate of accounts has told all offices concerned to inform pensioners about the procedure.
How to complete your proof of life
You have five options under the new SOP, and most people can use the easiest one without leaving home:
- Nadra’s Pak ID mobile app
- Authorised Nadra registration centres
- Nadra mobile units
- e-Sahulat franchises
- Bank branches or mobile apps operating as authorised Nadra centres
The key change is who you are proving it to: banks are no longer the place you prove you are alive — Nadra is. A bank can only help where it is specifically authorised as a Nadra centre.
What if you cannot use a phone or get to a centre?
Not every pensioner has a smartphone, and some are too frail to be verified digitally. The SOP keeps a manual door open for exactly these cases: pensioners without digital access, or who cannot be verified due to extreme old age or medical reasons, can use form No. 10 — the manual life certificate. Ask your pension facilitation centre how to file it.
Pensioners living abroad: forms 11 and 12
For Pakistani pensioners residing abroad, the SOP designates form No. 11. For family pensioners of pensioners living abroad, form No. 12 has been fixed. If you have retired relatives overseas drawing a pension in Pakistan, they are inside this system too — they use the overseas forms rather than the domestic channels.
Family pensioners: the non-marriage certificate
This is the rule most likely to catch people out, because it adds a document beyond the proof of life. In family cases where the continuation of the pension is conditional on marital status — typically widows or unmarried dependents — a non-marriage or non-remarriage certificate is required.
Two details matter. First, the certificate must be verified by the union council concerned, then submitted to the pension facilitation centre. Second, if updated information about marital status is not available in the Nadra record, the SOP says the prescribed alternative procedure can be adopted.

The bigger picture: banks are out, Nadra is in
In September 2026, the Finance Division shifted the entire proof-of-life process to Nadra’s digital system, removing commercial banks from routine verification of federal pensioners. Three facts worth knowing:
- Banks were barred from marking pension accounts dormant over proof-of-life. A bank cannot freeze your account or demand branch visits for biometric verification just because proof of life was not submitted to the bank.
- The fixed March and September verification schedule was abolished. You complete your verification any time during the six-month window.
- Missing the window means “suspense status”, not permanent loss. If the central system does not receive a valid Digital Life Signal from Nadra for six consecutive months, payments pause — but the record is suspended, not closed. Complete the verification and the system automatically restores the account and releases the accrued arrears.
The Digital Life Signal travels from Nadra to the Controller General of Accounts or the Military Accountant General through a secure API — no slips to carry between offices.
What to do this week
- Check your last verification date. If it has been close to six months, open the Pak ID app or visit the nearest authorised channel now.
- Family pensioners: confirm with your union council what you need for the non-marriage/non-remarriage certificate, and confirm your marital-status information is updated in the Nadra record.
- No digital access, very old, or medically unfit? Ask your pension facilitation centre for form No. 10.
- Never pay an agent for this. The procedure runs through Nadra’s own channels.
