New Era: Sahibzada Farhan Takes Charge
The biggest story of this series isn’t the toss — it’s the captaincy. Pakistan begin their home season with their third T20I captain in as many years. Sahibzada Farhan, who led Pakistan to a silver medal at the recent Asian Games in Japan, has been named full-time T20I captain as selectors build toward the T20 World Cup 2028.
The previous skippers — Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Salman Ali Agha — are all out of the side. Salman Ali Agha has been dropped altogether, while Naseem Shah and Fakhar Zaman return to the squad. It’s a bold reset, and tonight is its first real test.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, bring back Kusal Mendis as captain after a bronze-medal Asian Games campaign with a second-string side. This is their first bilateral T20I series in Pakistan since 2019 — when they swept the hosts 3-0 in Lahore. They’ll be hoping for a repeat; Pakistan will be desperate to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself.

Rawalpindi Pitch & Head-to-Head
Rawalpindi has been a high-scoring T20I venue — the average first-innings score in recent games is around 201, with teams batting first winning 12 of the last 20 matches here. The toss-winning captain’s call to bat first fits the trend: put runs on the board under lights and squeeze with spin later.
Head-to-head in T20Is: 30 matches — Pakistan won 18, Sri Lanka won 12. Pakistan start as favourites at home, but Sri Lanka’s 2019 whitewash in Pakistan is a reminder that this fixture has a habit of surprising.
