Current CGT Rate Schedule (NCCPL / Finance Act 2025)

Rates depend on when you acquired the shares:

Acquisition PeriodFilerNon-Filer
On/after 1 Jul 202515% flat15% flat
1 Jul 2024 – 30 Jun 202515%30%
1 Jul 2022 – 30 Jun 202415% → 0% (by holding period)25% → 0%
1 Jul 2013 – 30 Jun 202212.5%25%

NCCPL deducts CGT automatically on every sell trade — the cash never reaches your account. Being a filer vs non-filer can halve your tax on older holdings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is CGT calculated on PSX?

Capital Gain = (Sell Price − Buy Price) × Quantity. Tax = Capital Gain × applicable rate. NCCPL deducts it automatically at settlement.

Does holding period still matter?

For shares acquired on or after 1 July 2025, no — a flat 15% applies regardless of holding period or filer status. For older acquisitions, the regressive holding-period slabs still apply.

What if I made a loss?

No CGT is charged on a capital loss (gain ≤ 0). However, you must still file your annual return to stay compliant.

Is CGT different from dividend tax?

Yes. CGT applies when you sell shares at a profit. Dividend tax (15% filer / 30% non-filer) applies when a company pays you dividends. Try our Dividend Income Calculator.
