Frequently Asked Questions

How is dividend tax deducted?

The company deducts WHT at source through NCCPL before the dividend reaches your account. Your dividend voucher shows the exact rate applied.

What’s the difference between filer and non-filer dividend tax?

Filers pay 15% WHT; non-filers pay 30% — double. On Rs 200,000 annual dividends, a filer keeps Rs 170,000 while a non-filer keeps only Rs 140,000.

Are dividends from mutual funds taxed differently?

Yes — dividends from mutual funds’ debt portion can attract 25% (filer) / 50% (non-filer). Check your fund’s distribution voucher.

Can I reduce dividend tax?

The only reliable way is becoming a filer (register on FBR IRIS and file annually). That single move halves your dividend WHT from 30% to 15%.
