Frequently Asked Questions
How do PSX circuit breakers work?
PSX applies a price band around the previous close — typically 7.5% or Re 1.00 (whichever is greater for low-priced stocks). Orders outside the band are rejected; if touched, the stock “locks” and trading halts at that price.
What happens at upper lock?
Buyers queue with no sellers — you generally cannot buy, but may be able to sell into the queue. At lower lock, the reverse: sellers queue with no buyers.
Do circuit limits ever change?
PSX can revise bands during extreme volatility. This calculator uses the standard published rule — always confirm special cases with your broker.
Disclaimer: Based on standard PSX price-band rules (7.5% / Re 1) as of October 2026. PSX may impose different bands on specific securities or during special sessions. Confirm with PSX notices before trading.
